The Black Improv Alliance is a community of current and future Black improvisers. They are proud to be both an independent organization and the leaders of Black & Funny: Florida. Their work has been featured by Speakeasy Theater, Bob Carter’s Actor’s Rep, Improv U, The Pack, Hideout Theater, Miami Improv Festival, Baltimore Improv Festival, Palm Beach Improv Festival, Countdown Improv Festival, Twin Cities/Black & Funny Improv Festival, Black Impact Benefit Show, John Krasinski’s Some Good News, and more! They perform and teach all over the world and online.
The Black Improv Alliance (BIA) makes spaces for people of African descent to build worlds, create characters, and tell original stories - authentically and unapologetically. Through unscripted comedy, drama, and music, they are dismantling white supremacy, one scene at a time.
BIA is committed to speaking out against racism, increasing representation in improv, and reminding everyone everywhere that Black laughs and Black Lives Matter. They hope to entertain and uplift people of all colors but will always focus on amplifying Black voices.
Performance Teams include Wakanda vs. EVERYBODY, Cuzzins, The International Players Club, & The Come Up. You can find them performing at theaters and festivals around the country and online. Bring electric Black joy to your theater by clicking below and booking one (or all) of our teams now!
The 100 Black Improvisers Partnership is a joint project between BIA Academy and theater owners/corporate sponsors across America. By pledging to provide a minimum of five scholarships for Black students, each of our partners contributes to our common goal of getting 100 Black people into Improv 101 by July 2021.
#OperationBlackJoy is an ongoing service project dedicated to making Black people smile. Through direct action - including service events, random acts of kindness, and free or sponsored arts education - BIA is committed to creating and supporting Black Joy.
BIA Academy is Florida's only Black-owned improv school. Instructors teach various levels of Improvisational Acting, along with workshops which specialize in specific skills.
The Black Improv Almanac is a database of Black-owned improv schools/theaters, Black improv teachers, All-Black teams, and All -POC teams. If you are interested in diversifying your performer or instructor lineup, you've come to the right place!
