Or, The Story of How Buying An Ice Cream Cone for Five Black People Turned Into Delivering Almost $500 of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream to 60+ Black People In One Day 😂
In sum: We were gonna buy ice cream for five people but then you guys donated $400 and then Ben & Jerry's gave us a crazy discount so after fulfilling our online orders we cleared out the Ben & Jerry’s freezer case and partnered with Citrus Family Care Network to deliver ice cream to more than 10 Black foster families, and some individuals, and more than 60 people got ice cream, and kids did happy dances and there were some grown-up happy tears and lots of socially distanced Black Love was shared. (Find the full story on our Facebook page!)
It was a really good day.
Some highlights:
-The kid who seemed somewhat appreciative of our affirmation that Black Lives Matter and he’s important and he can do anything - but started straight up dancing when he heard the words ‘Ice cream cake’ 😂
-The family that was celebrating their son’s high school graduation when we pulled up with the ‘Celebrate Black Joy’ cake.
(Coincidence? Serendipity? You decide)
-The older lady who teared up when we brought her pints of Half-Baked because she had been just thinking about ice cream that morning and then, there we were. (AND she runs an organization to care for other people! So we got to help a helper!)
-Handing out some pints on the streets to people who were just really happy to get them.

Our 2nd mission for #OperationBlackJoy was a huge success! We gave away 100 ice cream cups, 4 cases of cold waters, $400 of self care products, $250 in Winn Dixie gift cards, and more notes and words of affirmation than we can count! Thank you so much to @benjerryscoralgables for donating the ice cream (You guys rock! Hey Melanie! 👋🏾) and to @citrusfcn & @circleofbrotherhood for partnering with us to make the event run so smoothly! And thank you so much to every person who donated! Your dollars put a lot of smiles on a lot of faces today! #OperationBlackJoy @ Liberty City
